West Ham ace Dimitri Payet has been named on the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or award – and the club’s supporters were thrilled on Twitter.

The French midfielder has made the prestigious list that is judged solely by a panel of journalists this year.

Payet, 29, has enjoyed a fantastic 12 months for both club and country and been rewarded by being named among the world’s best player, with Cristiano Ronaldo the bookmakers’ favourite to scoop the prize.

There were eight Premier League representatives named, including Leicester duo Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez.

West Ham fans expressed their delight with Payet’s individual achievement and feel he fully deserved to be listed.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Payet starred in France’s team at the European Championships and helped the host nation to the final, were they were beaten by Portugal.

The attacking midfielder has emerged into a fan favourite at West Ham since he signed in 2015 from Marseille.

He helped the club to a seventh-placed finish last season and was the driving force behind Slaven Bilic’s side.
