Dimitri Payet scored the winner as France beat Sweden in a World Cup qualifier on Friday night in Paris – and fans on Twitter hailed the West Ham playmaker.

The 29-year-old scored midway through the second-half after the visitors had taken a shock lead through winger Emil Forsberg.

But, Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba levelled the scores with a header on 57 minutes as Payet, who played the full match, netted the winner eight minutes later.

Supporters were impressed with his display as they urged their fellow fans to get behind their player on the club scene.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Payet has represented his country on 30 occasions, scoring eight goals and assisting seven, including helping them to the final of Euro 2016 in the summer.

On the domestic front he has played 11 Premier League and EFL Cup games for Slaven Bilic’s side, scoring two goals and supplying five assists.

The Hammers are currently hovering above the relegation zone with 11 points from 11 games as they prepare for a tough away trip to White Hart Lane after the international break.

Tottenham are the only unbeaten team in England’s top-tier this season and could send their London rivals into the relegation zone with a defeat.

In other West Ham team news, Julian Dicks has named the most consistent Hammers player and it’s not Dimitri Payet.
