Arthur Masuaku had a day to forget as West Ham suffered a 4-2 defeat against West Brom on Saturday – and the club’s fans were quick to target him on Twitter.
The Hammers slumped to their fourth defeat of the season and have picked up just three points from their opening five games.
The 22-year-old defender made a huge error in the build-up to West Brom’s opening goal after conceding a free-kick for a handball.
From the resulting set piece the left-back decided to handle the ball inside the penalty area when he was totally unopposed, meaning Nacer Chadli converted the first goal of the afternoon from the penalty spot.
The club’s fans expressed their anger on Twitter towards Masuaku and were extremely frustrated with the Frenchman.
What was Masuaku thinking there?!?!

That was the stupidest thing I've seen in a long time from Masuaku. West Ham's first ten has been shambolic.

Salomon Rondon, James McClean and Chadli then put the hosts 4-0 up and a late comeback from the the Hammers wasn’t enough to salvage any points.
Michail Antonio, who netted his fifth goal of the campaign, and Manuel Lanzini goals had given Slaven Bilic’s side hope but West Ham fell to a second consecutive 4-2 defeat.
Masuaku joined West Ham in the summer transfer window and has been an important player at the start of the season, with first-choice left-back Aaron Cresswell sidelined with a long-term injury.
West Ham’s defence has just kept one clean sheet in their first five league matches and are struggling at the back.
In other West Ham team news, Bilic has described the club’s player as brilliant after his start to the season.
