West Ham fans expressed their anger on Twitter as Michail Antonio was targeted for his performance against NK Domzale.

The Londoners suffered a 2-1 defeat to Slovenian side Domzale in their first-leg of the Europa league qualifier on Thursday.

Antonio was used as right-back during last season despite being an attack-minded player and manager Slaven Bilic opted to deploy him there again in the qualifier.

The adventurous full-back recently signed a contract extension with West Ham that will keep him at the club until 2020, but fans have urged Bilic to use Antonio further up the pitch.

He joined for £8million last summer and eight Premier League goals in 26 appearance led to many fans calling for Roy Hodgson to call him up to England’s Euro 2016 squad, but the manager went for Kyle Walker and Nathaniel Clyne instead.

The former Nottingham Forest man played a major role in West Ham’s successful Premier League campaign last year, as the Hammers earned a seventh-placed finish.

Enraged West Ham fans explained on Twitter what they thought about Antonio’s defensive performance against Domzale.

The return fixture will be on 4 August when the Hammers will be hosting their first competitive fixture at the Olympic Stadium, and they will be hoping to overturn the 2-1 deficit.

In other West Ham team news, Harry Redknapp believes that the club can reach the top four with leader Dimitri Payet.
