Aaron Cresswell made his return from injury for West Ham on Saturday against Crystal Palace – and Hammers fans hailed the difference he made to their team on Twitter, despite being sent off.

Cresswell, 26, started the match at left-back for the Hammers in his first appearance for the club in the new campaign.

He played 76 minutes in the east London side’s 1-0 victory over Palace, providing the assist to Manuel Lanzini’s goal, but his match was cut short after being sent off after receiving two yellow cards.

Hammers fans hailed their star full-back’s performance on social media, with many stating that it was good to have him back and some believed that he was unjustly sent off.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

The full-back moved to West Ham in the summer of 2014 from Championship side Ipswich and has become a key part of the Hammers defence in his stay at the club.

The east London side had started the new campaign slowly, but they will now be hoping that the return of Cresswell alongside their victory will now help them to push up the league.

They are currently placed in 15th with seven points from their first eight Premier League fixtures.

They face a struggling Sunderland side next week, who are currently bottom of the league with just two points.

In other West Ham team news, Slaven Bilic has revealed that Simone Zaza will not be returning to Juventus in January.
