West Ham have made a contract offer to Nicolas N’Koulou, according to reports.

Spanish publication L’Esportiu claim that the Hammers are attempting to sign the Cameroon international on a free transfer after his contract ends with Marseille later this month.

The report says that Espanyol are currently leading the way in the race for the 26-year-old but the Spanish club may lose out if West Ham offer a higher salary.

The former Monaco defender has been an integral player for his club side this season after featuring 33 times in Ligue 1 and playing in 41 matches in all competitions.

West Ham had solid 2015-16 season in the Premier League with James Collins, Winston Reid and Aaron Cresswell all enjoying stellar campaigns at Upton Park.

It is believed Slaven Bilic will be looking to bolster his squad upon the completion of the European Championships after his side qualified for European football this season.

The Hammers manager has already been linked with a number of different attacking options this summer but will also be looking to add quality to his defensive back-line too.
