West Ham star Dimitri Payet has better free-kick record over the last year than Cristiano Ronaldo, according to the latest statistics.

Payet, 29, has scored five free-kicks since August 2015, putting him third in the table for the most converted set-piece strikes in Europe’s top five leagues.

Payet sits ahead of Ronaldo, who has scored four free-kicks in the same time-frame but is still behind Chelsea’s Willian and Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

The France international joined the Hammers from Marseille last summer and has gone on to score 15 goals and provide 21 assists in just 47 games under Slaven Bilic.

The creative midfielder forced his way into his country’s squad for the European Championships this summer and helped his side reach the final of the competition.

Payet was the star of the show on Wednesday evening against Accrington Stanley as his 96th minute free-kick secured West Ham’s first win in five games in all competitions.

The forward is yet to hit the back of the net in the Premier League this term though as his side have struggled in the opening stages of their domestic campaign.

West Ham have picked up just three points from their opening five league games this season and have already suffered losses to West Brom, Watford, Manchester City and Chelsea.

In other West Ham news, fans have mourned the destruction of Upton Park, as the historic ground went up in flames as the filming of ‘Final Score’ began.
