Arsenal are keen to prise Sam Byram from West Ham, according to a report.

The Express, citing Italian publication Tuttomercatoweb claim that the former Leeds defender is wanted by Arsene Wenger even though he only arrived at West Ham in January.

The Gunners’ interest is dependent upon the future of Hector Bellerin, who reportedly could be on his way back to Barcelona this summer to replace Dani Alves as the clubs’ long term right-back.

The Spanish giants have been strongly linked with a move for Bellerin five years after he left the Camp Nou academy after Alves joined Juventus.

Byram joined West Ham in the January transfer window for £3.75million as the Londoners took advantage of his contract situation at Leeds, which was due to expire this summer.

The 22-year-old made a sound early impression for Slaven Bilic’s team before injury kept him out for the final months of the 2015-16 season.

The 6ft player still has four years left on his current deal at West Ham but Arsenal could test their London rivals’ resolve with a bid.

In other West Ham news, Hammers co-owner David Gold has admitted the club could be forced to cash in on Dimitri Payet if they received a mega offer.
