West Ham will complete the signing of a new striker costing around £20million within weeks, according to a report.

The Hammers have made clear their ambitions to spend big on attacking talent in the forthcoming transfer window.

They have already had a £31million bid rejected for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette and Bournemouth have confirmed they have turned down a stunning £25million double offer for striker Callum Wilson and winger Matt Richie.

The likes of Liverpool’s Christian Benteke, Arsenal’s Theo Walcott and Marseille’s Michy Batshuayi have also been targeted by the club as they prepare to play at the Olympic Stadium next season.

Now a columnist called the Insider has claimed on the official West Ham website that the club are targeting two new strikers this summer and will imminently sign one.

“It is my understanding that the club have made £20million bids for UK based players this week and they hope to sign the first of two strikers in the next few weeks,” wrote the Insider.

“It has been made clear to me that fans should not be concerned if bids are being turned down.

“The Premier League season has only just finished and these things happen early on in the transfer window.

“I have been told that the Club are determined to get value for money and could bid for a number of players as they look to buy three or four key players.”

West Ham’s series of stunning offers comes a week after co-chairman David Sullivan claimed the club had made a £23.8million bid for a player on the Continent and were also preparing to make a second, £20million-plus bid for a Premier League-based player.

“We hope to bring in one or two top players,” Sullivan told Sky Sports News HQ on Monday of last week. “The Olympic Stadium gives us about £12million a year of extra income.

“We put a bid in today for €30million for a player and other bids are going in. We’re going to be making a £20- £25million bid for a player in England later this week.

“Whatever happens we intend to bring a top striker in.”

West Ham are ready to smash their club record transfer fee of £15.5million, which was spent to entice Andy Carroll from Liverpool in the summer of 2013.

Carroll is comfortably the Hammers’ record signing, although the club have also spent £10million-plus fees on the likes of Payet, Enner Valencia and Angel Ogbonna.

In other West Ham news, teen sensation Reece Oxford is increasingly likely to leave the club this summer.
