Ross Barkley has been coming under some stick this season, mainly due to his inconsistent performances in the Premier League for Everton.

However, come the Merseyside derby against Liverpool on Monday night, Barkley can quieten his critics with a standout display supporters know he is capable of.

The 23-year-old Toffees ace will come up against a fast-paced and highly-energetic Jurgen Klopp side whose defence has been questioned this season.

The Reds have conceded 20 goals in 16 Premier League games and Barkley will enjoy running at the Liverpool backline.

Barkley is a ball carrier who also likes to have a pop at goal and with his natural ability he must test the under-pressure Simon Mignolet.

The Belgian goalkeeper, who kept a clean sheet in his last game, replaced Loris Karius in goal after the German was dropped following a bad run of games between the sticks.

This puts Mignolet under a heap of pressure to perform and someone of Barkley’s quality can severely test his mental state during the game.

Liverpool will no doubt come out firing on all cylinders and Barkley should utilise the space in behind and punish the away side.

As a boyhood Everton fan, he will also understand what this game means to the supporters and he can use that passion and drive to help his side to all three points.

In other Everton news, this is the combined Toffees and Liverpool XI of the Premier League era.
