Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier needs to show his best form against Hull if given the opportunity by manger Mauricio Pochettino.

The 22-year-old is currently facing a huge battle to feature in the starting line up and was an unused substitute in the 1-0 defeat against Manchester United on Sunday.

Spurs host Hull on Wednesday in the Premier League and Dier could be handed a lifeline to kickstart his season.

Pochettino has revealed that Mousa Dembele will miss the Hull clash as he is suffering with a foot injury.

The Belgian midfielder’s absence is a big blow to the Spurs side and Dier seems the most likely option to replace him in the centre, with youngster Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko alternative options.

Dier is yet to reach his best form this season, but has been forced to play at centre-back during the absence of senior defender Toby Alderweireld, who has now fully recovered from his injury.

The England international is now competing once again for a central midfield role and must show his qualities against Hull.

He has looked uncomfortable in the defensive position and at the beginning of the season looked short of his best in the midfield role.

Dier was pivotal to Spurs’ success last season and was one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League, but his form has dropped significantly since a disappointing campaign with England at the European Championships.

The midfielder needs to regain his composure on the pitch and show off his great range of passing.

Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele appear to be the preferred options in the midfield roles, meaning Dier will need to force his way back into the side by taking his opportunities.

In other Tottenham news, their senior player has detailed the extent of his knee injury.
