Ambitious Championship side Wolves are edging closer to signing Monaco star Ivan Cavaleiro, according to a report.
The 22-year-old is set to leave the Ligue 1 giants this summer and his agent Jorge Mendes was in Monaco on Monday night to finalise a deal that would see Cavaleiro join Walter Zenga’s new-look side.
The Express and Star claim that the former Benfica winger is set to form a reunion with Wolves’ Helder Costa, who he knows from his time at the Portuguese giants and Monaco.
It’s not yet known if the potential deal is for a permanent transfer or a loan.
The Benfica academy graduate signed for Monaco last summer in a £13million move, after penning a deal that would see him stay at the Stade Louis II until 2020.
Cavaleiro, who has won two caps for Portugual, found game time hard to come by for the French side in his debut season, making 19 appearances in all competition with seven of those coming off the bench.
Cavaleiro, who made his debut for Portugal against Cameroon in 2014, made his first big breakthrough while on loan at La Liga side Deportivo. He scored three goals and supplied another three in 34 appearances for the relegation-threatened side.
Wolves are confident of securing a deal for the 2013-14 Europa League finalist before Wednesday’s 11pm deadline, which would see the Midlands club make their tenth signing of the summer.
In other Wolves transfer news, this former Arsenal striker could be making a late move to the Midlands club.
