There have been plenty of memorable moments in 2016 for Liverpool but Football Insider chooses which three moments have been the best for the Merseysiders in the last 12 months.

Sadio Mane’s arrival

After an impressive end to the 2015-16 season, there were still concerns about the squad depth and much anticipation ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s first summer transfer window. He didn’t disappoint, making a number of new signings including a £34 million deal for Mane. The forward has been sensational since his move from Southampton, scoring eight goals and providing four assists in his first 16 league games. He also netted a stoppage time winner against Everton in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Monday evening.

Europa League quarter-final victory

Many few people would have predicted Liverpool would reach the Europa League final just eight months after Klopp’s arrival but they did it in astonishing fashion. The double-leg victory against Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-final provided yet another famous European night for Liverpool and the comeback at Anfield was one of the most thrilling encounters in the last decade. Klopp’s links with the German club made it an even tastier affair and there were some special renditions of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” to saviour too.

Merseyside derby victory at Anfield

Liverpool capped off a good end to the season with an emphatic 4-0 victory against Everton in the final Merseyside derby at Anfield in April. Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge were on the score-sheet as the Reds ran rampant over their neighbours and demonstrated their superiority under Klopp. It was even sweeter given the Blues’ disastrous campaign and the imminent departure of Roberto Martinez.

In other Liverpool news, this is why this player was the most disappointing in 2016.
