Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of striker Jonathan Kodjia from Bristol City.

The Midlands side announced the signing of the 26-year-old forward on their official club Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon.

The announcement follows claims from Sky Sports News’ chief reporter Kaveh Solkehol claiming that the Championship club were set to complete the £15million signing of Kodjia.

It was claimed that Hull, West Brom and Derby were interested in the Ivory Coast international, but Roberto Di Matteo’s side have won the battle for the highly-rated striker.

Kodjia was left out of Bristol City’s 3-1 win over Villa on Saturday, hinting that a deal was looking imminent for the striker to leave Ashton Gate.

Villa have already signed striker Ross McCormack for £12million from Fulham this summer, but following an injury to senior striker Rudy Gestede they have been keen to add another frontman to their side.

Ivory Coast international Kodjia has scored 19 goals in 52 matches in all competitions for City, including an impressive 18 league goals last season, and has left the club after just one year in the south west following his move from Angers.

In other Aston Villa transfer news, Hull City and Marseille are lining up bids for Villa forward Jordan Ayew.
