Tony Xia has dismissed a report linking Aston Villa to Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, stating he’d rather give opportunities to his own club’s youngsters.
Johnstone, 23, penned a new two-year deal at Old Trafford at the weekend, but with David de Gea in the net he is unlikely to get match time with Sergio Romero also ahead of him in the pecking order.
The Birmingham Mail posted on their official Twitter page on Monday that the young United prospect was a target for Villa.

However, outspoken owner Xia has responded on his personal Twitter account stating that he hadn’t talked to new manager Steve Bruce about the player and that he wouldn’t give chances to other team’s youngsters at the expense of his own club’s.
Have to make it clear even didn't talk to SB about this. But Y w'd rather not giving chances2our own young man but other club's youngsters? https://t.co/WMFSgbG4vb

Summer goalkeeper addition Pierluigi Gollini has come under some criticism since moving to Villa Park under former manager Roberto di Matteo.
This has meant that Bruce could be looking to bring in his own man to play between the sticks following the club’s poor start to the Championship season.
The Midlands giants are currently sat as low as 20th with 11 points from 12 fixtures and just one win.
In other Aston Villa transfer news, Villa are interested in Middlesbrough forward Jordan Rhodes.
