Aston Villa owner Tony Xia has revealed what manager Roberto Di Matteo told him about the state of the Villans squad this summer and the club’s former managers.

Xia has become known for his cryptic tweets since his £92million takeover of Villa, but fans have responded well to the club’s more open and direct approach to sharing the club’s news.

The new chief appointed the Champions League winning manager this summer as he aims to provide the claret and blue outfit with the resources to return to the Premier League.

“I can tell [you] one thing that RDM said,” Xia tweeted. “We have had many talents just with wrong management!”

The tweet seems to point the blame at the failings of previous Villa Park bosses who Di Matteo clearly feels didn’t get the best out of the current crop of stars at the club.

Paul Lambert (June 2012 – Feb 2015), Tim Sherwood (Feb 2015 – October 2015) and Remi Garde (November 2015 – March 2016) were the previous three managers.

The Birmingham based club were relegated from the Premier League for the first time in the history last season having finished last in England’s top tier, amassing just 17 points from 38 games.

In other Aston Villa team news, fan favourite Jordan Amavi was selected in the Aston Villa squad for their pre-season friendly against Premier League outfit Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon.
