£11m Leeds star set for first start in over a month after Raphinha news - pundit

Danny Mills has tipped Jack Harrison to replace Raphinha in the Leeds United starting XI against Southampton.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender delivered his verdict after Raphinha started for Brazil overnight on Friday.

The winger scored a brace for his country in their 4-1 victor over Uruguay in World Cup qualifying in the early hours yesterday morning (October 15).

As quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Marcelo Bielsa insisted he would not take any risks with his talisman.

Harrison has not started for Leeds in over a month with Dan James taking his place in the side.

The Englishman finally completed a permanent move to the Yorkshire giants for a reported £11million feeover the summer after spending the previous three seasons on loan from Man City.

Asked if he expected Harrison to replace Raphinha at St. Mary’s, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Yes, there’s obviously been lots and lots of talk about what’s happening, what’s going on.

“As we know South Americans have always had 18 games for qualifications and because of covid and the Copa America that has been contested so there has been or two issues.

“You could put Dan James on Raphinha’s side and Harrison on the other.

“You can mix it up that way. Bielsa has one or two options, I don’t think that’s a huge problem.

“These players aren’t missing six or seven games where you start to think it would become a problem. It’s one game that you have to deal with.”

Harrison has scored 20 times and provided 21 assists in 134 games across all competitions for Leeds.

He is under contract with the Whites until the summer of 2024.
