15 clean sheets in 29: West Ham plotting summer swoop for 24-year-old stopper - report
By Will Butcher
West Ham could make a summer move for goalkeeper Alex Cairns after he starred in Fleetwood’s promotion push from League One this season, according to a report.
The Mail claim that the Hammers could target the 24-year-old stopper in the summer to solve their goalkeeper crisis, with only three months remaining on Spaniard Adrian’s contract.
Cairns, who was released by Yorkshire giants Leeds in the summer, has amassed an eye-catching 15 clean sheets in 29 league games for Uwe Rosler’s side.
West Ham see Cairns as a potential back-up for England international Joe Hart, as they continue in their pursuit of the Manchester City stopper who is currently on loan with Torino.
Manager Slaven Bilic has alternated between Darren Randolph and Adrian this season, as it remains unclear which goalkeeper the Croat manager sees as his number one.

His performances have given Fleetwood a rock-solid platform in their chase for promotion this season, as they sit two points behind league leaders Bolton at the top of England’s third tier.
With a contract until the summer of 2018, Fleetwood could cash in on their number one stopper as they look to avoid losing him on a free transfer.
Football Insider verdict:
A top goalkeeper during his days in the Leeds academy, Cairns has starred for Fleetwood this summer and is more than capable of plying his trade above League One. However, Cairns failed to earn a contract at Elland Road and that must be taken into account by West Ham chiefs if they are to sign Cairns. The Doncaster-born stopper also has a decision to make, in that he is likely to be used as a back-up and must consider whether he would rather first-team football at a lower level. Even if Adrian does leave in the summer, the Hammers still have Randolph and a number one goalkeeper – like Hart – should be brought in before they look to apply depth.
In other West Ham transfer news, the Hammers are set to rival Everton and a whole host of European sides for this Turkish midfielder.
