By Abigail Withey

Newcastle United fans have expressed their delight at the arrival of new winger Jacob Murphy from Norwich City on social media.

The 22-year-old striker was confirmed as the club’s newest addition on Wednesday afternoon in an announcement on Twitter.

Newcastle United welcomed the Canaries winger back to his boyhood club on their official Twitter account alongside a picture of the star when he was a baby in a Magpies kit against his official signing image.

Tyneside fans aired their thoughts about the club’s new signing on Twitter and a majority of the Toon supporters welcomed the former Norwich player back “home”.

Among the supporters’ fans was a message from his twin brother a former team mate who wished his sibling the best of luck at Newcastle but stated that he would miss him at Carrow Road.

The England Under-21 is Rafa Benitez’ third signing of the summer transfer window after the Magpies manager secured Christian Atsu on a permanent basis from Chelsea in addition to Eibar centre-back Florian Lejeune.

Benitez will be hoping that the addition of Murphy to the squad will strengthen the club’s attacking prowess as the Magpies return to the Premier League in the upcoming 2017/18 campaign.

In other Newcastle news, the club are plotting a move for a PL goalkeeper.
