Keown: This is what Arsenal must do to win the Premier League this season

By Abigail Withey

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has outlined what his ex-club need to do in order to win the title – and he has said that Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez will have to play their part ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.

Ozil and Sanchez, both 28, have been rumoured to make an exit from the Emirates this summer, but as the transfer deadline day looms closer their exits seem more unlikely.

Despite both players being left out of the Arsenal squad which faced Chelsea in the Community Shield on Sunday, manager Arsene Wenger has said he’s happy to let them play out their contracts and leave next summer.

Now, Arsenal legend Keown has called upon the duo to put in more effort and give their all during performances on the pitch during their upcoming Premier League campaign.

The ex-defender stated that to succeed and win titles the squad must give their all.

He told The Sun: “You can’t do it giving it half tilt, you have to give everything – and that includes Ozil, Alexis Sachez, the whole lot.”

Keown recalled Arsene Wenger’s incredible squad which won the FA Cup title back in May.

“I looked at that cup final and the players looked like street fighters,” Keown explained to the Sun.  “There was an anger, a competitiveness and a determination that I had not seen for many years. I was stunned by it.”

“Whatever he (Wenger) said to the players in the way they prepared, that has got to be the preparation ahead of every game now.”

Arsenal put in another spirited performance on Sunday and beat Chelsea 4-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Fans will be hoping that gives them a boost to take into their Premier League matches, which start on Friday against Leicester.

In other Arsenal news, fans have invested their faith in new signing ahead of Community Shield clash.
