Leeds fans react to Stuart Dallas performance v Switzerland

By Guy Giles

Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to react to winger Stuart Dallas’ performance for Northern Ireland in their World Cup play-off second leg against Switzerland on Sunday night.

Dallas was a surprise starter for Michael O’Neill’s side as he travelled to Basel on crutches, after a strong tackle from Fabian Schar in the first leg left him with a heavily bruised foot.

The Leeds winger shook off the injury to start for Northern Ireland in their crucial second leg game, but could not prevent his team missing out on a place in Russia as they drew 0-0, losing 1-0 on aggregate.

Dallas put in a solid performance for his country, impressing many Leeds fans who are calling for him to start for his club.

The winger has had to settle for a bit-part role this season under Thomas Christiansen, completing only 90 minutes on two occasions in the Championship, and on three other occasions in the EFL Cup.

Deployed mostly in a left midfield role for Christiansen, Dallas has contributed two goals and one assist in his 15 appearances in all competitions.

His performance for Northern Ireland after almost being ruled out has led many Leeds fans to call for his inclusion from the start as Leeds meet Middlesbrough on Sunday the 19th of November.

Christiansen’s side have struggled recently after a lightning start to the season, losing seven out of their last nine to slip out of the Championship playoff places.
