West Brom are Crystal Palace looking to go head-to head for Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho in the summer, according to a report.

The Sun have claimed that the Premier League duo are looking to sign the 27-year-old Frenchman who is currently on loan at Palace.

The report details that the south east London club will be desperate to thrash out a permanent deal with the Reds for Sakho and that they will feel they have first refusal on the Frenchman.

Meanwhile, it is also stated that Baggies chief Tony Pulis is keen to add another central defender to his team this summer, but the £20million valuation could steer him away.

Sakho is currently out of favour at Liverpool after falling out with manager Jurgen Klopp during the club’s tour of the U.S. in the summer.

He had failed to make a single appearance for the Merseyside giants in the first half of the season and Klopp even favoured playing Lucas Leiva out of position in the back four.

But, Sakho has since excelled in his temporary move to Sam Allardyce’s Crystal Palace team and many clubs will surely be chasing the player who still has three years remaining on his Liverpool contract.

Football Insider verdict:

Sakho is clearly a talented player, but no one knows the damage in Sakho or Klopp’s relationship apart from those two themselves. The Frenchman’s position at the club may be irreparable and therefore the Reds will be getting a very good fee for a player they no longer want due to his success with Crystal Palace. Additionally, if there is any profit on the £19million initial spend out that Liverpool paid for his services from Paris-Saint Germain then the Merseysiders should look to get a deal done and many will be happy with the business conducted by the club. However, it is paramount that Klopp spends the money generated by Sakho’s sale on a new centre-back which has caused the team problems for years now.
