Proven PL performer begs Poch for Tottenham transfer amid £50m deal fears - report

By Harry Sykes

Luke Shaw has begged Mauricio Pochettino for a transfer to Tottenham this summer, according to a report.

The Sun claim that the Manchester United misfit is “desperate” for a reunion with the Spurs boss, who managed him during his Southampton days.

It is said that Spurs, in turn, are keen on signing Shaw amid doubts over the future of left-back Danny Rose.

The Sun report that Tottenham fear they will lose Rose, 26, to Manchester City during the forthcoming window for a potential £50million fee and that Shaw has been lined up as a replacement.

The England left-back wants to play for Spurs and to be reunited with Pochettino, who brought the best out of him at St Mary’s Stadium in 2013-14.

This was enough to earn him a £30million transfer to United, but things have not gone as smoothly as Shaw would have hoped.

He has made just 43 appearances in three seasons and missed most of the last campaign after suffering a double leg fracture.

Moreover, manager Mourinho has publicly criticised the defender, 21, on a number of occasions and claimed at the weekend that he cannot compare to his team-mates in “the way he trains, the way he commits, the focus, the ambition”.

Nevertheless, Shaw is a proven Premier League performer with 89 appearances in the competition already and he has also accumulated seven England caps.

Wales international Ben Davies has deputised for Rose while he has been out for two months with a knee injury, but that has not stopped the Shaw link gathering pace.

Bookmakers Bet Victor have installed Tottenham as the clear favourites to sign Shaw from United this summer.

In other Tottenham news, the London giants have won the race to sign a 32-goal striker who has taken the league by storm.
