Liverpool are expecting a bid from Crystal Palace for Mamadou Sakho, according to a report.
The Independent reports that Sam Allardyce is keen on making the Anfield outcast a permanent feature in his squad after an impressive start to his loan spell – as long as they stay in the Premier League.
“Securing our Premier League status is our priority, and then we’ll see what Mamadou’s aspirations are, to be with us or anywhere else,” Allardyce said.
“His future doesn’t look as if it is at Liverpool. He’s enjoying his football and his life here.”
Palace have won all four of their games in which Sakho has started for them since his January switch, keeping three clean sheets in the process.
Ironically though, the 27-year-old’s impressive performances could mean that Palace can’t afford him.
Southampton and a number of Italian clubs are also interested in signing the centre-back, meaning his value could rise up to £25million, despite him not being used at all by Jurgen Klopp this season.
Sakho has been limited to Premier League 2 football with the Liverpool development side this season due to a falling out with his German boss during their pre-season tour of the USA.
The 28-time France international has made 80 appearances for the Reds in all competitions since arriving from Paris St. Germain in 2013.
Palace have now moved clear of the relegation zone thanks to Sakho’s impact in the last four matches.
They are now four points clear of the Premier League drop zone.
Football Insider Verdict
The improved form of Sakho could become an irritant to Allardyce in the summer as it only means he’s going to cost more than what they’re hoping to pay. Virgil Van Dijk has been linked with a move away from Southampton for a long time now so it seems likely that they will be quite desperate for a top-quality centre-back in the summer. £25million is a lot to spend on a defender, especially one that is known for causing dissent among the ranks. It would be a great deal for Liverpool though who look set on bolstering their defensive options at the end of the season. The added funds could really help towards taking the club to the next level.
In other Liverpool news, the club are plotting a summer swoop for this £17million-rated international defender.
