Proven PL performer says goodbye after West Ham mega-bid accepted - Sky

By Danny Wright

Marko Arnautovic has said goodbye to his Stoke team-mates after West Ham had a bid accepted for him, according to a report.

Sky Sports claims in their live transfer blog on Tuesday [8:00pm] that the Stoke had agreed to a mega-bid worth £24million from the Irons for the 28-year-old.

If the deal went through, Arnautovic would become the Hammers’ most expensive player of all time, surpassing the current record spend of £20.5million on Andre Ayew last summer.

The Mail has previously reported that West Ham have had two bids rejected in their pursuit of Arnautovic, who has proven himself to be a capable Premier League performer in his spell with Stoke.

The 62-times Austria international has made 125 appearances in the English top-flight with the Potters and has become a vital part of their squad.

He enjoyed a good spell of form last season for the Staffordshire outfit, scoring seven goals and supplying six assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.

Arnautovic is without doubt a key player in Mark Hughes’ squad at the Bet365 Stadium, but it now appears that his time there is over after saying his goodbyes.

Football Insider Verdict

West Ham need new attacking options this summer – that is no secret. However they need strikers more than they need wingers, and Arnautovic won’t solve too many problems in that regard as he is a similar type of player to Sofiane Feghouli. The Austrian is definitely better that what Slaven Bilic already has, but to splash £24million on him is a huge risk, especially when it’s not the weakest area of his squad. The Irons are crying out for someone to spearhead the attack due to Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho’s injury woes in recent years. Arnautovic can play up front, but is a lot better when he is put out on the wing to cut inside.

In other West Ham news, one of the Hammers’ Premier League rivals is plotting a move for this first-team player.
