32 goals in 61 games: Celtic eye 21-year-old goal machine - report

By Will Butcher

Celtic are keeping tabs on Orlando City hotshot Cyle Larin, according to a report.

The 21-year-old is currently one of the hottest properties in American soccer , after starring alongside Brazilian Kaka, former Stoke star Brek Shea and Italy international Antonio Nocerino.

FourFourTwo’s USA website revealed that Larin is just one of many strikers currently being monitored by Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic, as they look to give Moussa Dembele formidable competition.

The Scottish giants a reportedly aware that many European clubs are also keeping close tabs on the impressive Dembele.

Despite his tender age, Larin has scored a swashbuckling 32 goals in just 61 games for the newly-formed MLS outfit.

His eye-catching form in front of goal has seen him secure 19 caps for his nation Canada, hitting the back of the net five times after his debut in 2014 against Bulgaria.

Despite an impressive 14 goals last season for the Lions, Orlando failed to form any kind of consistency. They finished in eighth in the Eastern Conference.

Orlando could be tempted to cash in on their attacking spearhead, as they risk losing him on a free transfer with his contract set to end in just over a year’s time.

Football Insider verdict:

The signing of Larin would be a fantastic piece of business by former Liverpool boss Rodgers. Affordable, Larin is not one of his side’s three designated players that are allowed to be above the wage cap. It means Orlando’s attacking spearhead will be on a low contract and could be a cheap alternative to available players in the Premiership. Despite doubts over the quality of the defences he has faced in the MLS, Larin has proved himself at international level by finding the back of the net and would have no problem scoring in Scotland’s top flight. At 21, Larin’s best years are ahead of him and would be a more than suitable back up to Dembele.
