Aston Villa could be about to sign the perfect Coutinho replacement - expert

Aston Villa should look to sign Ferran Torres to replace Coutinho ahead of next season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor has urged Unai Emery to sign the Barcelona and Spain international.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are not interested by the prospect of a loan, with sales preferred due to their economic situation, and Torres could be a player to make way.

Football insider exclusively revealed last month (8 May) that Aston Villa target Ferran Torres is open to a Premier League return this summer.

Torres made 43 appearances for Manchester City during his time in England, winning the Premier League and League Cup, however, injury hampered his appearances during the 2021-22 season, and instigated his move to Barcelona in January.  

With a potential return to England back on the cards, Agbonlahor believes it a deal that Aston Villa can look to explore.

“I would take him at Villa, “ He told Football Insider.

“I look at Coutinho and would see if I could move him on due to his injury problems and not reaching what was expected.”

“Villa need an attacker, and we saw Torres at City where he hasn’t got a specific position, whether that was through the middle or on the wings.

“However, he did show that he has the quality to make the difference and he can provide competition for Emilano Buendia and Ollie Watkins in those attacking positions.”
