Kevin Phillips fears Rangers target Rhian Brewster may struggle for game time at Ibrox if Alfredo Morelos stays this summer.
The former Sunderland and Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested the 20-year-old would be behind Morelos and Jermain Defoe in the pecking order if he made a move to Glasgow this summer.
Football Insider revealed that the Liverpool striker is one of Steven Gerrard’s top targets this summer.
However, the Gers will be made to wait in any potential move for Brewster.
The striker is currently on loan at Swansea and the BBC revealed that the Welsh side are finalising a deal that would see him remain at the Liberty Stadium until the 2019/20 season is completed.
Since he joined the Championship side in January, the England Under-21 international has scored four goals in 11 appearances.
When asked by Football Insider where the Brewster would fit in at Ibrox, Phillips said: “It will be interesting to see what happens with Morelos when the window opens. There has been big talk about him moving on.
“Defoe – if I am Stevie G – he will be crucial next season because he is a born goalscorer.
“If Morelos was to go, a door opens for Brewster but if he has Morelos and Defoe there next year it would be very difficult to get game time there.
“Brewster wants to be playing week in, week out.”
Morelos’ future has been the subject of intense speculation over the past two seasons.
The Colombia international finished the Gers’ top scorer last season after he netted an impressive 29 goals in 46 appearances before the season was curtailed.
In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club is set to offer a contract to 16-year-old sensation.
