A respected journalist has claimed that Rangers transfer target Umar Sadiq could do very well for the Light Blues should he join the Light Blues.
Dutch football writer Peter McVitie, who saw the Roma hitman play on-loan for NAC Breda in the Eredivisie last season, thinks that the player has all the ingredients needed to become a success in Scotland.
“Once he started getting going he looked really really bright, there’s a lot to work with” he said whilst making an appearance on the Daily Record Rangers podcast (00:48).
“The most impressive thing about him was his pace and the skill that he has, he’s got decent movement. He’s shown that he can bend runs and get on the shoulder of a last defender and find space. There’s definitely a talent there” he continued.
The Gers have reportedly made a six figure offer to Roma to sign the 21-year-old on a season-long loan deal according to the Scottish Sun, and he could well be the next player to sign up for Steven Gerrard’s Rangers revolution.
Football Insider verdict
Umar Sadiq does seem to be a player with a bright future ahead of him, going by the comments of Peter McVitie. What has to be said though is that the Nigerian seems to be more of a second striker than a like for like partner to main Gers striker Alfredo Morelos, who is an out and out goalscorer, there seems to be more to Sadiq’s game than that. Sadiq had a decent record for Breda, scoring five goals in sixteen games, but he doesn’t seem to have played a lot of football in his career so far. However, he has featured for Roma, so he should know about playing in pressure situations already, which he most certainly will be under in Glasgow. Paying six-figures for a loan deal is potentially quote risky, but Steven Gerrard and Mark Allen must see something in the player which makes him worth splashing the cash for, and that will be enough for fans to get behind the signing of the Nigerian.
