Aaron Ramsdale 'a lucky, lucky boy' as 'desperate' Arsenal footage analysed - Campbell

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was “a lucky, lucky boy” to escape a red card against West Ham, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Gunners and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 23-year-old would have been sent off had he made contact with Jarrod Bowen with his “desperate” challenge.

Bowen was booked for diving in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at the London Stadium.

As shown on Sky Sports (1 May), the Hammers winger went to ground after Ramsdale charged out of his box to win the ball.

However, Ramsdale did not make contact with Bowen and referee Mike Dean booked Bowen despite the fact he quickly got to his feet and apologised.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on the incident, Campbell said: “Let me tell you this, Ramsdale was late coming off his line.

“He should have been sweeping that up long before Bowen got to the ball. The fact of the matter is he got desperate because he was late.

“I don’t knot how he didn’t make contact, I really don’t. He’s a lucky, lucky boy. If he makes contact there is every chance he gets sent off. I think he got lucky.”

Mikel Arteta’s side returned to fourth spot with the 2-1 win over West Ham.

The Gunners welcome Leeds United to the Emirates on Sunday while top-four rivals Tottenham face a stern test at Liverpool.
