Shay Logan: Aberdeen ace better than Celtic and Rangers duo

By Matt Farr

Aberdeen defender Shay Logan believes team-mate Jonny Hayes is one of the best players in Scotland.

Several Scottish stars have been drawing the plaudits for their performances this season, including Celtic’s James Forrest and Rangers’ Barrie McKay.

However, Logan insists that Hayes is better than the Old Firm duo, who are rated at a combined £15million by their respective clubs.

He told the Daily Record: “Apart from the likes of Dembele and Sinclair I’d say Jonny is the best player in the league.

“James Forrest and Barrie McKay? I’d take Jonny over them any day although they’re both good players. Jonny on his day is so direct and fast nobody can stop him.

“I’ve played in England and the Championship and I know that he could definitely do what he does here in that league.”

Hayes has scored six goals and contributed 13 assists from 24 appearances this term, but the Republic of Ireland international has not had the same recognition in the media as either McKay or Forrest.

His form though, has seen the 29-year-old linked with a move to Cardiff, who are believed to have had two bids in the region of £500,000 rejected for his services.

Aberdeen are desperate to keep hold of their star player, who is a fan favourite at Pittodrie. He was given a standing ovation when was substituted during their Scottish Cup clash against Stanraer on Saturday.

He bagged an assist in a resounding 4-0 victory over the League One side.

In contrast, Rangers’ Barrie McKay has just three goals and nine assists from 29 appearances. Meanwhile, Celtic’s James Forrest has six goals and eight assists from 30 matches.

In other Rangers news, Ibrox skipper Lee Wallace believes the club must seal this striker deal to help them push for Champions League qualification.
