Danny Mills has tipped Everton to beat West Ham to the signing of Diego Costa as the Premier League rivals are linked with his capture.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England defender revealed his adoration for the Atletico Madrid striker, drooling over the way he strikes fear into the heart of the opposition.
Both the Toffees and the Irons have been reported by the Mirror as plotting a move for the 30-year-old hitman, who is said to be on his way out of Atletico after a breakdown in his relationship with the La Liga side.
Mills could not express his love of Costa enough when asked about the Brazilian-born Spanish international, insisting he would be a quality addition for any club looking for a dangerous striker.
However, he tipped Everton as a better option than West Ham due to the other attacking talents Marco Silva has at his disposal.
“I love Diego Costa, I think he is off the scale,” Mills told Football Insider.
“He plays on the edge, cause havoc. He’s a menace, an absolute menace. He’s the equivalent of when Drogba was at Chelsea. If Costa’s in the squad and you look at the team sheet you go: ‘Ugh, Diego Costa. He’s relentless, he’s going to chase things down, he’s going to dig me in the ribs, stand on my toes, be in my ear constantly.’
“He’s a fabulous finisher, works hard, puts people under pressure. If I was a manager, I’d have him in my squad every single time.”
Asked which of the Premier League rivals he would be better suited at, Mills said: “I think he’d be fabulous at Everton, without a doubt. They’re looking for a striker, look at their wide players – they’ve got pace, they get balls into the box – they need someone to hold the ball up. He’d suit them very, very well.
“He would be superb at any club but I think the players Everton have might just suit him a little bit better.”
Costa has 89 Premier League appearances and 52 top-flight goals under his belt from his time at Chelsea, while his international career has seen him score 10 times in 24 outings for Spain.
