Darren Bent admits Arsenal could struggle to keep hold of teenage starlet Bukayo Saka as Liverpool set their sights on his signing.
The former Tottenham striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists the north Londoners are in a “weird predicament” where they are a “massive club” not challenging for silverware.
As revealed by Football Insider, Liverpool’s scouts have been hugely impressed by the Gunners’ 18-year-old winger after his emergence in north London this season.
The versatile left-footer is set to be out of contract in the summer of 2021 but it is understood Arsenal will look to rebuff any offers even if he rejects a new deal at the Emirates Stadium.
However, Bent is not convinced Mikel Arteta’s men will be able to stand their ground if Liverpool come calling and admits he would be gutted to see him leave.
Asked if Arsenal could hold off Liverpool’s interest, the boyhood Gunner told Football Insider: “Look, I hope so because he’s a top, top talent.
“He’s an absolutely great talent but we know what it’s like – it’ll get to a point where if Arsenal aren’t progressing at the rate he’s thinking, then we’ve seen it happen before. We hope he doesn’t go anywhere but that’s the kind of weird predicament Arsenal are in.
“Yeah, Arsenal are a massive club but they’re not challenging for anything whereas Liverpool are challenging for all trophies on all fronts. It’s a difficult one, being an Arsenal fan I hope he doesn’t go anywhere.”
Saka has already played 33 times for Arsenal so far, with 29 of those appearances coming this season.
He has proven himself a very versatile player, operating as a left-back, a left wing-back, a left-winger and a right-winger so far.
In other Liverpool news, it can be REVEALED that the club are preparing to sell Klopp’s first signing for HUGE profit.
