Adrian backed to agree Liverpool deal after source's reveal - pundit

Alan Hutton has backed Adrian to sign a contract extension at Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said the 36-year-old might be happy to be third choice keeper at Anfield.

The goalkeeper’s current contract expires next month after he joined for free from West Ham in 2019.

But the Spaniard was not included in a club statement released last week confirming the departures of out of contract players Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita.

On 18 May, Football Insider revealed that the Reds have opened new contract talks with Adrian and there is a possibility he could stay at the club.

First choice shot stopper Alisson is contracted until 2027 and is almost certain to be Jurgen Klopp’s number one moving forward.

Caoimhin Kelleher is attracting interest from several Premier League clubs and could look for an exit this summer.

Hutton suggested Liverpool will want to keep Adrian as a squad player.

They possibly just to have his as a number three,” he told Football Insider.

Kelleher is still there, I know there is rumours about him moving on but I do not know if that is going to happen. He is a decent goalkeeper so he is your number two but you need three goalkeepers.

By reading into it that looks like the position Adrian is in at this moment in time. At this stage in his career he is maybe happy with that.

Maybe he is happy with that role within the squad so why not sign. But I do not think it is ever to push Alisson.

In other news, Liverpool have ‘concrete’ interest in signing star with same agent as Darwin Nunez.
