TalkSport host Adrian Durham has incredibly claimed that Brendan Rodgers must quit Celtic because he does not want to have his CV stained by being the manager to see Rangers topple their dominance in the Scottish Premiership.
Rodgers was hired by the Hoops in 2016 and in his first season he managed to win the domestic treble without suffering a single defeat.
This campaign, Celtic have gone further in Europe by reaching the Europa League knock-out stages but have seen a British-record unbeaten run dismantled by Hearts in one of their two league losses.
Durham, who has previously had strong views against the Bhoys, now believes that it is only a matter of time before Rangers catch up and overtake their local rivals as top dogs in Scotland, and has suggested that is why Rodgers must leave Parkhead sooner rather than later.
“I’m looking at it thinking this is the second season for Brendan Rodgers – he can’t do any better, he can’t do any more,” said Durham on his Drivetime radio show on TalkSport, as quoted by the Daily Record.
He added: “He must be looking over his shoulder. I think that Hearts game will have shocked him because Hearts absolutely rinsed Celtic that day and I know it doesn’t happen regularly but he must have been shocked by it.
“I think he has to get out before Rangers overtake them. He has to think I don’t want this to be on my watch. I don’t want Rangers to catch up with Celtic on my watch. I don’t want that on my CV’.
“And I think there’s a real possibility of that next season.”
Rangers are currently six points behind Celtic in the race for the Scottish Premiership title.
However Hoops man Rodgers can extend that lead to nine points with a win against third-placed Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Sunday afternoon.
A shock win for Derek McInnes’ side would leave both the Dons and Gers within six points of the Bhoys, who were hammered 3-0 in Europe by Zenit earlier this week.
In other Rangers and Celtic news, Chris Sutton has delivered a brutal putdown to the Gers after Celtic were dumped out of Europe.
