Patrick Bamford “looks very tired” and needs to be rested by Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England striker suggested Rodrigo Moreno should be given a chance up front against Manchester City at the weekend.
Bamford had a quiet game for the Whites as they ran out 2-1 winners over Sheffield United on Saturday.
He managed just 21 touches at Elland Road against the Blades, even fewer than goalkeeper Illan Meslier, according to FBRef.
Rodrigo replaced the Englishman after 64 minutes and Agbonlahor has called on Marcelo Bielsa to make that change at the Etihad.
He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “He looks tired for me, he looked very tired coming off. He wasn’t energetic.
“He looked disappointed coming off but I think it was the right decision.
“Rodrigo looked like he had a lot of energy. Maybe it’s time for Bamford to have a little rest on the bench and let Rodrigo play against Manchester City.
“You cannot play every game of the season. You do need a rest, especially when you’re over the age of 25.
“Maybe it’s something Bielsa does and he maybe just needs to give his team a little bit of a rest and rotate some players.”
Bamford has started all 30 of Leeds’ Premier League games this season and is their leading scorer in the competition.
The 27-year-old has found the net 14 times in 30 appearances and also has provided six assists.
