Agbonlahor: Barry and three other Aston Villa youngsters in line for January transfers

Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Louie Barry, Dominic Revan, Brad Young and Arjan Raikhy to all leave Aston Villa on loan this month.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer suggested a clause may be included in the deals to ensure they get regular game times.

Aston Villa confirmed on Tuesday (4 January) Barry, Revean, Young and Raikhy have all returned to the club after spending the first half of the season on loan at Ipswich Town, Northampton Town, Carlisle United and Stockport County, respectively.

The Midlands giants also confirmed today (7 January) Phillipe Coutinho has moved to Villa Park from Barcelona on loan for the rest of the season.

With competition for places so high, Agbonlahor has suggested there is little chance the quartet will get a chance under Steven Gerrard.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Steven Gerrard will look at the loans that have come back and will want them to go to straight back out and get minutes.

“The players that have come back are not going to break into the Villa squad this season. Villa have got enough players in those areas with new signings coming in.

“They’re going to have to go out and show what they can do. The other big thing is when you’re a youngster and go out on loan, if you’ve not ripped it up it’s hard for a Premier League manager to put them in his squad.

“Gerrard will want them to go somewhere else. It might be the same league but a different team.

“Maybe they will change the small print in the contract to say you have to get a certain amount of game time or it will cost you more. Just to make sure they get a certain amount of game time.”
