Gabriel Agbonlahor has hailed Kemar Roofe as a "great signing" by Rangers and predicted he will be a huge hit in Glasgow.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa striker admitted his surprise that Leeds United allowed the forward to leave for Anderlecht in the summer of 2019.

But he believes Leeds and Anderlecht's loss is Rangers' gain as he delivered a ringing endorsement of Roofe.

The Light Blues paid an initial fee of around £4.5m for Roofe that will be topped up by performance-related add-ons.

The versatile striker, 27, also put pen to paper on a four-year deal worth more than £20,000-a-week, making it a deal, Football Insider has been told by Ibrox sources, that is worth more than £10m including fee and wages.

"I think it's a great signing," Agbonlahor told Football Insider. "When he left Leeds I was a bit... it wasn't the right move for him, for me.

"I feel like he’s got the quality to play in the top team, the top two teams in Scotland or play the Premier League - either - because he played really well at Leeds.

"It's good to see him playing at Rangers now and he’ll be a great player for them.

"I feel this Rangers team is going to push Celtic all the way this season and it's refreshing, as a neutral, to see a closer title race in Scotland."

Roofe has been troubled by injury since his arrival but made a huge mark with a sensational goal from the halfway line against Standard Liege last month that Steven Gerrard hailed as the best he had ever seen live.

In nine matches for Rangers, the West Brom academy product has scored three goals.
