Agbonlahor: Bolingoli tipped for new Celtic role after latest development

Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Ange Postecoglou to reintegrate Boli Bolingoli into the Celtic first-team squad.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward delivered his verdict after Bolingoli featured in pre-season.

The 26-year-old was introduced from the bench after an hour of their 1-0 defeat to Preston North End at Parkhead at the weekend.

It was his first appearance in a Hoops jersey since he broke coronavirus restrictions at the beginning of last season.

Bolingoli travelled to Spain last August without telling the club before playing against Kilmarnock.

He was handed a three-game ban by the Scottish FA for his actions.

Celtic subsequently shipped the defender out on loan to Istanbul Basaksehir.

He played 18 times across all competitions for the Turkish outfit, including six Champions League group games.

Asked whether Bolingoli could feature for Celtic in competitive matches this season, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think he will do.

“When a new manager comes in it’s a fresh start for everybody. It happened with me with Steve Bruce when he came in he brought me back into the Aston Villa squad.

“I’m sure that’s what Postecoglou will be doing with Bolingoli. He’ll look at everybody over pre-season and give those that weren’t involved last season a chance to impress.”

Bolingoli signed a four-year contract with Celtic after leaving Rapid Vienna in the summer of 2019.

He has played 29 times across all competitions for the Bhoys and has four assists to his name.
