Agbonlahor can't believe Amadou Onana could quit Everton amid 'ridiculous' new claim

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Everton should not entertain selling Amadou Onana even if a “ridiculous” offer arrives this month.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the relegation-threatened Toffees “can’t afford” to part with the 21-year-old.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri (23 January), Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in Onana as they look for midfield reinforcements in the mid-season window.

Tavolieri claims the “urgent cash needs” at Goodison Park has “opened the door” to a potential exit for the Belgium international.

Onana signed for the Toffees in a reported £33million deal last summer after the Merseysiders hijacked West Ham’s move for the midfielder.

He has made 20 appearances for Everton this term, scoring one goal.

The Merseysiders parted with manager Frank Lampard on Monday (23 January) after an abysmal run of form which left them 19th in the Premier League.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I’m sure, unless it’s a ridiculous offer, they won’t sell anyone.

“They shouldn’t even entertain selling Onana at all. I like him.

“He’s got the attributes you want from a centre-midfielder. He’s aggressive, can run with the ball, he can break up play.

“Everton can’t afford to lose anyone.

“He’s a player that, unless there’s a ridiculous offer, you have to keep in the squad to hold things together.”

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (24 January) that former Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has rejected an approach from Everton.

Duncan Ferguson, Wayne Rooney, and Sean Dyche are among the other favourites to land the post.
