Agbonlahor can't believe Armando Broja latest at Chelsea after 'speaking to people'

Chelsea cannot begin the season with Armando Broja as their only natural striker, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted the Blues “need to do some business” and bring in a striker before the end of the transfer window.

The London Evening Standard reported earlier this week (2 August) that they are in talks with RB Leipzig over a potential loan deal for Timo Werner.

After loaning Romelu Lukaku back to Inter Milan earlier this summer, Werner’s exit would leave Broja as the only natural striker option although Kai Havertz is capable of playing as a false nine.

Chelsea confirmed on Friday (5 August) that Broja will wear the number 18 shirt for the 2022-23 campaign as he looks set to be a key part of Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

“It doesn’t make sense to me that Chelsea are not looking at more strikers,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Broja did well for a little bit of time at Southampton but it wasn’t for the full season.

“It’s different, the pressure might be a lot more for him at a club like Chelsea.

“They need to get doing some business.

“If you speak to anybody, nobody is excited about Chelsea’s season coming forward.”

Broja scored nine times in 38 games across all competitions while on loan at Southampton in 2021-22.

The 20-year-old’s only senior appearance for Chelsea came in March 2020 in the final Premier League game before lockdown under Frank Lampard.
