Agbonlahor can't believe Arsenal could sign Ilkay Gundogan - 'I can see him moving...'

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Man City will never let a player leave for Arsenal again amid rumours linking Ilkay Gundogan with the Londoners.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 32-year-old midfielder will only leave the Etihad Stadium to test himself in a new league.

According to The Guardian (22 May), Arsenal are plotting a free transfer move for Man City captain Gundogan – who is out of contract next month.

The report claims City are likely to offer the Germany international a new deal, while Barcelona are also keen to bring him to La Liga.

Gundogan has been in stellar form this season, notching nine goals and seven assists in 48 appearances across all competitions with Pep Guardiola’s side on the cusp of the treble.

Man City sold both Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal last summer (2022), and the duo proved instrumental in transforming Mikel Arteta’s side into title contenders.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Charlotte Cohen: “I don’t think Man City will ever let a player go to Arsenal again.

“This season, it’s almost cost them the title with Jesus and Zinchenko. They were outstanding.

“I think they’ll learn from their mistakes and know that Arsenal are a true rival.

“If Gundogan is to leave Man City, it’s to go to a different league. I’m not sure he’ll go to another English club.

“I can see him leaving for Spain with Barcelona. And the same goes for Bernardo Silva.”
