Agbonlahor can't believe Aston Villa could sign Alfredo Morelos after 'whispers from Rangers'

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Aston Villa should not move for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos this summer as he is not Premier League quality.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 26-year-old has “problems” with his fitness and temper – making him unsuitable for Unai Emery’s side.

According to Turkish outlet Takvim (29 March), Aston Villa are set to do battle with Galatasaray for Rangers star Morelos this summer as his contract comes to an end.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (28 March) that the Gers are yet to offer him a new deal despite holding talks over his future at Ibrox.

Morelos has notched 10 goals and seven assists in 38 games across all competitions this term – 17 of which have come as a starter.

Aston Villa could launch a move for a new striker in the summer window after selling Danny Ings to West Ham in January.

When asked if Morelos could be the answer, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Not for me.

“He’s got his fitness problems, he’s got problems with his temper – you hear whispers from Rangers.

“I just don’t see him as a Premier League player. I don’t see him starting in this Villa side, I can’t see him being a good option off the bench.

“He’s just not quick enough for this league. It’s a complete non-starter.

“Emery is a clever manager – he knows the right type of player to bring in. I can’t see him getting on with Morelos.

“He’s not going to get Villa into the top seven.”
