Agbonlahor can't believe Liverpool after £49m signing completed

Liverpool have “missed a trick” this summer and have little chance of winning the Premier League, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker can’t believe the Merseysiders’ lack of business.

The Reds only added Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig to the squad that finished third last season in a deal worth £49million in fees and wages.

However, Alisson Becker, Fabinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson, Jordan Henderson, Virgin van Dijk, Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips all signed new long-term deals with the club.

Asked whether the addition of Konate was enough to keep Jurgen Klopp’s side competitive this term, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “It didn’t make sense to me.

“Their squad is not good enough. Their first XI is outstanding but you get a couple of injuries to those attacking players then you’ve got nothing on the bench.

“You’ve got Takumi Minamino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita, there’s nothing on there that’s going to improve the team.

“They’ve missed a trick. All the other teams that are fighting for the title have got strong squads and strong benches and Liverpool haven’t. I think that’s going to cost them.

“It’s OK getting contracts sorted but you need to get other stuff sorted.”

Liverpool’s only major loss to last season’s squad is Gini Wijnaldum who joined Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

The Merseyside giants have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the season and have only conceded once in their opening three Premier League games.
