Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Man United to pull out of a deal for Mason Mount as Chelsea "aren't being serious" with their asking price.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 24-year-old is worth "£40million maximum" and insisted the Blues will have to accept a cut-price bid later in the window.

According to The Athletic's David Ornstein (21 June), Man United have made a bid worth £50million after add-ons for Mount - while Chelsea have countered with a figure of £65million.

The report claims the Blues are keen to grant the midfielder's wish to leave the club this summer.

Mount scored just three goals and grabbed six assists in a disappointing 2022-23 campaign which saw Chelsea finish 12th in the Premier League.

The England international has just 12 months left to run on his contract at Stamford Bridge, and can agree a free transfer to foreign clubs from January 2024.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I’d honestly say he’s worth £40million maximum.

“If Chelsea ask for much more than that, I think Man United should put the phone down – because they aren’t being serious.

“Mount has been out of form, his stats aren’t great. Chelsea don’t want to give him a new contract, so surely it suits them to sell him?

Man United

“Man United should pull out if they can’t get something sorted, and that leaves Chelsea stuck with a player who is going to be available for free.

“I think Chelsea will have to stop being stubborn later in this window. £40m is about right, but even that is a lot of money for someone who has been out of form.”
