Anthony Gordon may sign a new Everton contract if it includes an £80million release clause, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Gordon's new deal will "suit the player more than the club".

The 21-year-old has less than three years left to run on his current contract and was the subject of interest from Chelsea, Newcastle United and Tottenham in the summer transfer window.

They valued both players at £30million so the deal would have been worth £85million to the Toffees.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo last week (18 September) Frank Lampard confirmed the club are “speaking” to Gordon’s representatives to find the "right solution" to his contract situation.

Asked for his verdict on a possible new deal for Gordon, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: "Maybe, it's one of them where he signs a new contract and there's a release clause so Everton get £70million or £80million.

"But I'm sure that his agent will make sure it's the right deal for him or he won't sign it.

"It's going to suit the player more than the club."

Gordon has started the new Premier League season with two goals in Everton's opening seven games.

The England Under-21 international now has six goals and three assists in 56 top-flight games for the Blues, including 37 starts.
