Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Donny van de Beek to join Everton in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Man United's treatment of Van De Beek is a "joke" and they need to let him play regular football.

Everton director of football Marcel Brands told Dutch broadcaster NOS's Along the Line that the club tried to sign the midfielder in the summer transfer window.

Man United pulled the plug on a potential loan deal but Brands refused to rule out a January swoop.

Van De Beek has only played six minutes of Premier League football this season but has started in the Champions League and Carabao Cup.

Asked whether he thought Man United would let him join Everton in the new year, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: "I think they will.

"It's turning into a joke now. Man United need to just let him go and play football. You're trapping him at the club and not giving him any minutes.

"With the performances of Fred and McTominay, Van De Beek deserves a chance to show what he can do.

"Man United need to let him go in January and play some football. The kid just wants to play football.

"He needs a run of games. Not just the occasion 60 minutes. Give him a run of games."

Van De Beek has played 39 times for Man United, including 17 starts, across all competitions since his £39million move from Ajax last summer.

The 24-year-old is out of contract at Old Trafford in the summer of 2025.
