Gabriel Agbonlahor expects Aston Villa winger Trezeguet to retain his place in the starting XI despite Bertrand Traore returning from injury.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley, the former Villa striker and boyhood Villa Park fan insisted the Egyptian’s performance against Arsenal makes it difficult for him to be dropped.
Traore, 25, missed the trip to the Emirates before the international break because of an injury he suffered against Southampton the weekend before.
The 25-year-old returned to action in Burkina Faso’s 0-0 draw with Malawi last week as he completed 90 minutes the first time all season.
Asked by Football Insider whether he expected the £17million summer signing to return Smith’s starting XI, Agbonlahor said: “I don’t think Dean Smith will change the team, it will be the same team that played against Arsenal.
“Trezeguet had a good game against Arsenal. But if he is not having a good game against Brighton then Traore will come on and if he does well he will start the next game.
“This season you’re going to see a lot of switching between who starts Traore or Trezeguet.
“For me Trezeguet has to start because of what he did against Arsenal.
“But having Traore on the bench gives you that extra threat. Villa fans are yet to see what Traore can do. Everyone is excited for him to show the form he has got in his locker so we’re just waiting for him to show it and hopefully he can do it soon.”
Traore‘s start against Southampton was his first in the Premier League for his new club.
Prior to his summer move, the winger scored 33 goals and provided 17 assists in 126 games from Lyon.
