Agbonlahor: 'I don't rate Lloris at all' and Tottenham would be stupid to offer him new deal

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed it “doesn’t make sense” for Tottenham to keep hold of Hugo Lloris and offer him a new contract.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward slammed the Spurs captain and insisted he has not been good enough in recent seasons.

As revealed by Football Insider, Lloris is set to stay at the club next season with his contract set to expire in 12 months.

He is even open to the possibility of staying at the club beyond 2022.

It comes as a blow to his former boss Mauricio Pochettino who remains in “regular contact” with the Frenchman and wanted to bring him to Paris Saint-Germain.

Jose Mourinho is also a huge admirer of Lloris and made it clear throughout his reign both with his selections and public pronouncements.

Asked whether it was a good move for Spurs to keep hold of Lloris, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I don’t rate him at all, to be honest.

“I’ve watched him a lot over the past few seasons and he doesn’t really make a lot of saves.

“Sometimes he’s not been great with his feet, he’s given the ball away in big games.

“He doesn’t make those saves that you see [Emiliano] Martinez make, you see [Edouard] Mendy make.

“At his age as well, it doesn’t make sense for Spurs to give him a new contract. Spurs should be looking at a younger keeper with promise and a better shot-stopper.

“I’m sure they’ll be looking for another goalkeeper in the summer to battle him to be number one.

“A bit like Dean Henderson and David de Gea at Man United, you need two top keepers at least.”

Lloris, 34, has kept 12 clean sheets in 37 Premier League games this season.

Spurs have conceded 43 goals this term – only two sides in the top 10, West Ham and Leeds United, have let in more.

In other news, Tottenham may hire a “wonderkid” manager after a “huge” twist.
