Agbonlahor issues bold Rangers title claim after Celtic source's reveal in last 24 hours

Rangers should not be worried about Celtic’s aggressive approach to the January transfer window, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted it does not matter how much money Celtic spend this month it is about how their new signings bed in.

The Hoops have already added Japanese trio Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi and Reo Hatate already this month.

A club source told Football Insider on Monday (10 January) they are closing to turning Jota’s loan deal into a permanent one and will then look to sign another wide forward.

This site also revealed on Tuesday (12 January) they have been pipped to a deal for Australia international Riley McGree, who has headed to Middlesbrough for a medical after agreeing terms.

Meanwhile, Rangers have only added James Sands to the squad this month and Nathan Patterson has left to join Everton in a club-record deal.

Asked whether this month could swing the title race back into Celtic’s favour, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Not really, no.

“It doesn’t matter what you spend, it’s about how your signings do. It all depends on how the Celtic signings do.

“If Rangers feel they’ve got enough in the door, then it doesn’t really matter how many players you bring in, it’s about what those who are available do.

“You could bring in five players and they could do worse than the five players you already have.

“Rangers have got a six-point gap, if they feel they’ve got enough quality then you’d still fancy them to hold on.”
